When Is Tooth Extraction Necessary
When a damaged or broken tooth cannot be saved, it may risk your oral health. Some situations where we may recommend tooth extraction include:
- Dental trauma or fractures: Teeth that are broken beyond repair due to injury may need to be removed to prevent infection or further issues.
- Severe decay: If a tooth is grossly carious and cannot be restored, extraction may be necessary to protect neighboring teeth from damage.
- Impacted wisdom teeth: If your third molars do not erupt normally or remain impacted, we may suggest removing them.
- Loose teeth: Teeth that have become loose or mobile due to advanced gum disease or trauma may need to be extracted.
- Overcrowding: In certain orthodontic cases, we may extract one or more teeth to make space for the remaining teeth.

Types of Tooth Extractions Offered At Our Clinic in Houston, TX
At our clinic in Houston, we perform two types of tooth extractions: simple and surgical. During your consultation, our dentist will examine your mouth and take X-rays to determine the best approach.
Simple Tooth Extraction
This procedure is straightforward and involves no complex methods. If the tooth is fully visible and not broken, we will gently loosen it and remove it using dental forceps. To ensure your comfort, we will numb the area with local anesthesia, so you won’t feel any pain during the process.
Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Wisdom teeth often remain trapped beneath the gums or jawbone, which can lead to discomfort or pain. To prevent these complications, our dentists may recommend extracting them. Once we numb the gums and jawbone area, we will surgically remove the impacted tooth. In some cases, one or more stitches may be placed to support proper healing.
